Neurodevelopmental & Cognitive
Specialized support for the way your brain works — not the way the world expects it to.
Neurodevelopmental and cognitive differences affect the way people think, learn, focus and regulate their emotions. At Karasick Psychology we take a strengths-based, individualized approach — helping you understand your unique neurological profile and develop strategies that work with your brain, not against it.
ADHD
Beyond distraction — understanding the full picture of ADHD.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is one of the most commonly misunderstood neurodevelopmental conditions. ADHD affects far more than attention — it impacts executive function, emotional regulation, impulse control, motivation and self-esteem. Left unaddressed it can affect relationships, academic performance, career success and overall wellbeing.
At Karasick Psychology we provide comprehensive assessment and evidence-based treatment for ADHD in adults and adolescents. Treatment may include CBT, biofeedback and practical skills coaching tailored to your specific presentation and goals.
Late diagnosis of ADHD is increasingly common, particularly in women and girls whose symptoms are frequently overlooked or misattributed. Many late-diagnosed individuals describe the experience as both validating and overwhelming — finally having an explanation while also grieving years of misunderstanding. We provide a space to process all of it.
You may be experiencing:
- Difficulty sustaining attention on tasks that feel unstimulating
- Impulsivity and difficulty regulating emotional responses
- Chronic disorganization, forgetfulness or time blindness
- Restlessness or a constantly racing mind
- Low frustration tolerance and difficulty managing stress
- Underachievement despite high intelligence or capability
- A recent diagnosis and uncertainty about what it means for your life
- A lifetime of feeling different, lazy or not living up to your potential
Autism
Affirming support for autistic individuals navigating a neurotypical world.
Autism is a neurodevelopmental difference that affects the way people experience and interact with the world. Autistic individuals have distinct ways of thinking, communicating, processing sensory information and forming relationships — none of which are deficits, but which can create significant challenges in environments designed for neurotypical people.
At Karasick Psychology we provide affirming, strengths-based support for autistic adolescents and adults. We do not aim to change who you are — we work with you to develop strategies that reduce distress, build on your strengths and help you thrive on your own terms. Support may address anxiety, burnout, sensory overwhelm, social navigation, emotional regulation and identity.
We also support late-diagnosed individuals who are making sense of a lifetime of experiences through a new lens. This process can be profound, validating and transformative — and having the right support makes all the difference.
You may be experiencing:
- Anxiety or overwhelm in social or sensory-rich environments
- Exhaustion from masking or suppressing autistic traits
- Difficulty understanding or navigating social expectations
- Sensory sensitivities that affect daily functioning
- Emotional dysregulation or difficulty identifying your own feelings
- A recent diagnosis and questions about what it means for your life
- Burnout from years of trying to fit into neurotypical spaces
Learning Challenges
Reframing how you learn — and what you are capable of.
Learning challenges including dyslexia, dyscalculia and other processing differences affect the way people read, write, calculate and retain information. They are not a reflection of intelligence or effort — many highly capable individuals live with unidentified learning differences that have quietly shaped their relationship with school, work and self-worth for years.
At Karasick Psychology we provide therapeutic support for individuals navigating learning challenges across the lifespan — from teenagers struggling academically to adults who are only now beginning to understand why certain things have always felt harder than they should. Our approach is compassionate and strengths-based, focused on building genuine confidence alongside practical strategies.
For many adults a learning challenge diagnosis later in life reframes decades of experience — the shame, the frustration, the sense of not measuring up. Therapy provides a space to process that history and move forward with a clearer, kinder understanding of yourself.
You may be experiencing:
- Persistent difficulty with reading, writing or mathematics
- Inconsistent performance despite genuine effort
- Low self-esteem or avoidance of academic or work tasks
- Difficulty processing or retaining verbal or written information
- Frustration or shame related to learning that has followed you into adulthood
- A recent diagnosis and questions about what it means for your future
- A sense that you have never quite reached your full potential
